Headstand is called Sirsasana in Sanskrit. 'Sirasa' means 'head'. Your wrists should be aligned to your shoulders and your knees aligned to your hips.<\/li><li>Bend your hands and place your forearms on the floor. Interlock your fingers with the palms facing your side.<\/li><li>Place your crown on the floor between your palms. Now, the back of your head will be close to your palms.<\/li><li>Inhale as you raise your knees off the floor.<\/li><li>Exhale as you walk towards your elbows. Now, your body will resemble the alphabet 'V' in inverted shape.<\/li><li>Walk further towards your elbows till your back is straight. Ensure your body weight is distributed between your forearms and head and not entirely on head.<\/li><li>Slowly raise your right leg off the floor, bend it and bring the folded leg up to hip height. Now, bend and bring the left leg close to your right leg. Slowly lift your legs up towards the ceiling till they are aligned to your body.<\/li><li>During initial practice, hold the pose for few seconds. Increase the duration gradually over the next few weeks up to 5 minutes. Those who have been practicing Headstand for many years can perform the pose for 30 minutes.<\/li><li>To release the pose, lower your right leg to your hip height bending the leg as you lower and follow it with left leg. Now, gently place the right leg on the floor again following it with left leg.<\/li><li>Lower your hips and assume Child Pose for a few seconds.<\/li><\/ul><h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Note<\/strong><\/h5><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Beginners and those with over weight should strictly refrain from practicing Headstand.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Place a folded blanket under the head to perform the pose. During initial practices, you can place your back against a wall to perform the pose. However, do not let the entire body weight on the wall.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Those with severe neck, spine, hip and joint conditions should strictly refrain from practicing Headstand.
