Natural Remedies for Cough

Most of the ingredients mentioned here are very much a part of the kitchen cabinet.

1) Turmeric

Curcumin present in turmeric possesses antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is highly effective in relieving phlegm as well as dry cough. No wonder, turmeric is hailed as one of the best natural remedies for cough.

Add half a teaspoon of turmeric to a glass of water and bring to boil and drink.

Burn dry turmeric and inhale the fumes for relief from cough.

2) Honey

Honey possesses antiviral and antibacterial properties. It relieves phlegm and heals cough. It also coats the throat and cures irritation.

Add a teaspoon of honey to a cup of hot milk and drink before bedtime.

Add 3 tablespoons of flax seeds to a glass of water and bring to boil. Filter the content and add 3 tablespoons each of honey and lemon juice, mix well and drink.

3) Pepper

Take about 5 pepper, powder it and add some honey. Mix well and consume before bedtime. Take about 5 pepper, coarsely grind it, add to a cup of water and bring to boil. Simmer till the water reduces to half in quantity, filter, add some honey and drink.

Chew about two to three pepper once or twice a day.

4) Fenugreek

Fenugreek contains antibacterial properties. It relieves excess mucus in lungs and heals cough.

Soak one teaspoon of fenugreek in a glass of water and consume it on empty stomach the next morning for relief from cough.

5) Ginger

The antiviral properties of ginger aid in relieving cough. Gingerol in ginger relieves mucus in airway passages.

Take an inch of ginger, rinse well, peel the skin and crush it slightly. Add it to a glass of water and bring to boil. Filter and have it once or twice a day.

6) Garlic

The antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of garlic aid in relieving cough.

Crush about 5 garlic cloves, add a teaspoon of honey and clove oil and consume.

7) Onion

The antibacterial and antifungal properties of onion aid in relieving cough. Onion juice helps with expulsion of mucus thereby relieving cough and hence ranks among the best natural remedies for cough.

Add one teaspoon of onion juice to one teaspoon of honey, mix well and consume.

8) Lemon

Lemon is effective in healing throat infections. Vitamin C in lemon fights infections and also is an immune booster.

Extract juice from one lemon, add a tablespoon of honey and pepper powder, mix well and consume.
