Yoga Pose for Day 32 – Boat Pose (Navasana)

‘Nava’ in Sanskrit means ‘boat’. Since the pose resembles the shape of a boat, it is named thus. Just as a boat maintains balance on water, the pose helps to maintain body’s balance. This is achieved by the stimulation of Solar Plexus chakra and Sacral chakra. Proper functioning of these two chakras promotes self-esteem, self-confidence and determination. These traits support healthy balance of the body.

Accustoming oneself to stay balanced in the pose helps the mind to stay balanced and determined to achieve goals.

Instructions
  • Sit down on the yoga mat with your legs stretched straight.
  • Bend your legs slightly and lift the feet off the floor. As you lift your feet, lean your body slightly backwards.
  • Lift your legs upwards at an approximate angle of 45 degrees without bending your knees.
  • Stretch your hands forwards and above the legs.
  • Now, you will be balancing on your buttock and your body will resemble the shape of a boat.
  • Hold the pose for 20 seconds. Release the pose by placing the legs on the floor and straightening your body.
Note

The pose is not recommended to those with severe spine problems, back conditions, hip problems and high or low blood pressure.
